2015 Chevy Sonic Receives Top Safety Pick Title

A recent round of structural and feature changes have helped the 2015 Sonic earn a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Both sedan and hatchback models have earned the honor, which is a result of changes such as front-end structure and door-hinge pillar updates, as well as the use of side-curtain airbags that have been extended and are now programmed to deploy sooner in the event of a small overlap crash.

To win a Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must receive passing grades in five different crash tests, including: Small Overlap Front, Moderate Overlap Front, Side, Roof Strength, and Head Restraints & Seats. In every one of these tests, the 2015 Chevy Sonic received a “Good” rating, which is the highest score possible.

Sonic not only offers fun features, youthful styling and great efficiency, but also big safety in a subcompact package. The car includes 10 standard and strategically located airbags, several available driver-assist technologies like Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert, reinforced steel throughout, and “crush zones” at the front and back that ensure controlled compression if the car is involved in an accident.

Sonic models that hold the TSP designation include all sedans and hatchbacks built after February 2015.
